Seeing things like an artist!

I remember growing up spending lots of time just looking at things around me like the surrounding landscape or seascape. Seeing thing like an artist though for me means looking past what most people usually see. Looking for those little (or not so little) interesting things in a scene that really stand out. So the question is how do I decide what to paint? The first step for me is to draw out what I find that inspires me. Lot's of things like colors, design, and values all play a big part of the picture. Before to long the picture takes on a whole new meaning especially once you develop a feeling about what your seeing. As an artist it's so easy to get caught up in thought! I guess that's why people tend to think that artist's can be a bit odd. I never talked that much in school (when I was younger) because of observing my surroundings. Like most artists as a result I'm sure other people thought I was weird! Such is the life of an artist however, that's the price one sometimes has to pay. Over the years, I've spent time learning about drawing, design, and watercolor technique. I'll admit though that feeling isn't something that's taught in watercolor painting but, rather it just happens! Now adays whenever I look at something I start to think about how I'm feeling about the subject. As the colorful fall season arrives there's so many things to see and do. Often times the next watercolor painting is just around the corner. Seeing things like an artist is usually about our lives and painting what we see and feel!
