Ruby Beach

Ruby Beach II
Ruby Beach II

I thought it would be fun to write a blog about one of my paintings and how I was inspired to paint it. My latest watercolour painting is titled Ruby Beach II 15 x 22" on 140lb. Arches Watercolor Paper. This amazing place can be found on the Olympic peninsula, Washington in the beautiful Pacific Northwest coast. These rocky formations called sea stacks where formed over many years from erosion along the coast. These great and very interesting large rocks can be found along the Washington and Oregon coast. My first visit to the Peninsula and Ruby Beach was in early mid 70's. I remember asking about the boardwalk and taffy shops before we arrived only to be very surprised! This is the Pacific Northwest in it's wild untamed natural beauty! Guess what folks if your from back (east like me) then in for a big surprise because there's no taffy shop and board walk. What they do have is an extremely wild gem of a coast worth exploring! My second trip to the northwest coast was to see Whidbey Island and deception pass. This great area is best known in parts of the movie Officer and a Gentleman. Over all Ruby Beach was and is a very magical place to me and made for a fantastic subject as well. So I hope you will follow along with me on my painting journey's and adventures as I explore more subjects such as people and places. Some up coming subjects include the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains, The Maine Coast, and a few portraits of some very interesting people as well. www.donwhitesel.com
