My New Art Blog: Creating Coastal Scenes

Silent Tranquility
As an artist, I really do enjoy painting a wide variety of subjects like landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, florals and more. I remember drawing and pastel painting at the early age of ten years old. I would sit for hours and especially loved painting beach scenes. My Mom told me some years ago that she and Dad would take my brother and I to the shore ever since we were young. So, it's wonder that painting marine art and coastal subjects has become a passion of mine. I always love being on the coast or near water to relax which I think is a great way to rejuvenate. It's become part of my DNA to be along the coast or at a harbor enjoying the great creations and beautiful things to see in this world. I've been to some fantastic places too like coastal Maine, Massachusetts, New England, Washington, the Pacific Northwest, and Florida. I guess it comes as no surprise why I love painting coastal scenes and Marine art. It's an absolute blast and a very rewarding feeling to paint very scenic coastal subjects. It takes time though for the artist to learn how to go about creating their art but, it's a fun filled interesting journey. Often times watercolor is best learned by just doing it and also to perhaps take some lessons. Other artists always love to teach and share with you too. My long-time artist friend from Maine the late Carlton Plummer who was a tremendous inspiration to me! Carlton's art tips and information were invaluable and something I'll always remember. I still miss him and think about him often. Especially when looking at his book titled Create Dramatic Coastal Scenes in Watercolor. It's great when other artists share and learn from each other because it's truly a gift! It's even more rewarding though when people really like what your art has to say. Here's my latest watercolor painting which I hope you like and enjoy. It's titled Silent Tranquility 14 x 20" on 140lb Arches watercolor paper. I think it captures the feeling of peacefulness the ocean gives. I was told recently by my friend and hair stylist Michelle that I need to add a palm tree or two sometime in a painting. I guess since she's soon moving to Flordia and wants to see what I create! I guess I'll have to do for her so please stay tuned! All the best, from Don Whitesel Fine Art. www.donwhitesel.com
