Shapes, Values, a good drawing and design! That's what it takes to do a good still life or painting of flowers. I have many fond memories from my childhood and just getting starting out in art! I would spend countless hours drawing and pastel painting which was lots of fun. My Uncle (the late) Andrew Moore from Tyrone, PA was a well-known and very talented watercolor artist. His specialty was painting florals, still life's, and landscapes. We would spend many hours with my Uncle Andy in his studio studying the watercolor paintings of artists like Charles Reid. While other kids were out playing baseball and football my passion was art and learning to paint. I wonder how many other people share the same artistic desire? While those days are long gone they still resonate very clearly in my mind. Learning to find your way in art should be a fun journey so don't worry about your painting style! It will take sometime but, your own painting style will come along soon enough! Sooner or later every thing will all comes together just like a light bulb going off in your mind.  Drawing and design play a big part when learning any type of painting. Yes watercolor painting in particular can be difficult but, it's also very rewarding when you start to see the results! I find that today many people become quite discouraged at painting and give up to soon. They say watercolor is to hard! Yes it's very challenging but, once you start to get it a whole new world opens up! Try to remember that learning is a big part of the fun artistic journey and enjoy it! Art allows you to show where you've been and share the things you've seen. I always tell someone that's just starting out in watercolor painting that my pile of studies and experimental paintings is much bigger than theirs! In other words you should learn from each mistake but, also when a painting is successful learn for it too. Watercolor painting is a medium that's full of happy accidents! Learning to let watercolor do it's own thing is really the secret to unlocking lots of success. So enjoy the artistic journey!
