Painting Seascapes

Sailing Downeast
I absolutely love watercolor painting and everything about it especially when I get to paint seascapes! It's fun going out drawing, sketching and plein air painting. There's just something about the smell of salt water and seeing lobster boats that puts the soul at ease. I'll admit that not all of my (long time) friends even knew I was an artist till the last several years thanks to Facebook and (FASO) my website. I'm soon be approaching the 50 year mark as an artist when I turn 58 in May. I've enjoyed learning from some of the best artists in the world most of my life and continue to do so. The pictured watercolor painting was first drawn out while up along the mid coast in Maine just outside Boothbay in Ocean Point. I titled the painting "Sailing Downeast" for a reason. So often you see scenes of sail boats and Lobster boats out along the Maine coast. The term "Downeast" is a term referring to New England and Canada in particular Maine. The Phrase "Downeast" is actually sailing terminology. Gee the things you learn as an artist but, it's a life long love and lot's of fun! As we enjoy spring and summer I'll continue doing more watercolor paintings and try to share my inspiration for them. A lot of people usually ask me where my ideas for a painting comes from. Like most artists we paint our lives and the things that inspire us.
