Winter's Magnificent Splendor
Winter's Magnificent Splendor

People are often curious about where an artist finds inspiration for paintings. It's a rather common question I've written about before but, will take a different approach to answer. My Florida friends, and former GF in Floridia maybe surprised at the answer too. Whether your painting snow or a sandy beach it's pretty much the same thing! Paintings that make a great subject are ones that have a positive - negative type effect. It's because a sandy beach or snowy day are good examples of positive / negative work to make the best subject. I know that's a typical answer an artist would give but, it's true and it sparks the imagination as well. Infact a friend of mine who just moved to Florida recently mentioned about doing a few palm trees in a beach type painting which I think sounds like fun idea. Trees are a good subject in a painting and add great effect. My latest painting is one that I just did after two back-to-back snowstorms hit the northeast. The tree line I painted is from down back behind my place which makes for a fun fascinating subject. Although I'll admit the days have been quite cold because of wind chills.  My full-time career as an exterminator has made me consider spending winters in Florida when wind chills are that cold. So perhaps painting a beach scene or two might be a good idea in the near future. In any case artists are always looking for inspiration are every corner.
