Saturday evening I found myself watching the world series play off while I managed to take an few nap. When I woke I decided to venture down into my studio to clean up an few things where I had just been working on a new watercolor painting. Next thing you know I'm sitting there with a brush in painting again late Saturday evening. I've always allowed myself to be creative when the mood hit's after all it's the best time to work on an watercolor painting. I woke up Sunday morning to the sound of rain the smell of coffee and realized that my watercolor painting was nearly complete. It's a great feeling knowing that you've done your best possible work on a painting and have something to show for it. My new subject is a colorful Window and Door way surrounded by ivy and terracotta pots filled with flowering plants. The inspiration for this Painting comes from a famous local landmark here in Lancaster PA. called the Conestoga house. The estate is a famous beautiful structure owned by a family that runs the newspaper here in town. I decided to take a different approach (this time) with this wonderful and very beautiful subject. I originally did a painting some 30 plus years ago of the Conestoga House. The watercolor painting which was a landscape won awards in two shows or exhibits. It's fun to rediscover an old subject and do something different that you haven't done in a long time. This is a favorite subject of mine that I took a lot of joy and Delight in painting and look forward to doing several more paintings of this beautiful place here in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. I want to take the time to thank all my current and new email letter subscribers for the interest and support! You can also follow me on facebook (Don Whitesel Studios) and on Instagram.
